If the mixer is in bad shape with bleeding channels or busted knobs, I will use my z1 as my mixer and run the rca line into one of the channels of the club's mixer. Also, a lot of the CDJs have busted play or cue buttons which is another good excuse to use my x1. If the CDJs are older than a few years, I'm pulling out my x1 and mixing on the club mixer. I have a mac, x1, and z1 as my back up in my bag. These days I show up planning to use Rekordbox off of a USB. I'd much rather mix on my gear that I know is in proper shape than use an expensive Pioneer or Allen and Health mixer that is barely working after years of abuse. Often times the gear in clubs is in terrible shape or very outdated. I've used it in plenty of clubs with no noticeable issues in terms of sound quality. I've played on lots of different gear over the years and I love my x1 and z1 set up. How can u connect a Z1 to a club sound-sytem at all, given that it only has one cinch master out? how could they see wich track the other one was playing? Where they using 6 decks so to say? Or was the Z1 maybe used to controll one or two decks of the 4-channel mixer? Or did i understand something completely wrong here?
This night left me with so many questions, maybe one of you guys can explain how their setup worked. i should maybe say that i started DJing this year and dont have any experience with club-level gear yet. I always thought the Z1 is just a very basic 2-channel mixer for home-mixing, but since that night im thinking about buying the X1 Z1 combo for myself. I watched some videos of TheSorryEntertainer later, and it seems like he's using the X1+Z1 combo quite a lot at his gigs, also when he's playing alone. While they were playing b2b, TheSorryEntetainer played exclusively on a Traktor Kontrol X1, the 2-channel Mixer Traktor Kontrol Z1 and his macbook, Esther played exclusively on two pioneer CDJs and used the clubs 4-channel pioneer mixer. The music was a blast and i had an awesome night, but the hardware they used left me a bit confused.
